Writing Prompt

Maybe it's just a matter of getting the word out and maybe it's a lack of interest, but I didn't get any takers on last weeks writer's prompt. But, I'm willing to try again, so get the word out.

Send your flash fiction to:  LR sot Mullin at yahoo dot com.

I'll read all the stories sent to this address or posted in the blogger comment by midnight of Wednesday, February 2, and post the winning story on Friday, February 4. Please, no adult content. I reserve the right to delete any inappropriate comments, stories, or language. Thank you.

So, here's this weeks prompt:

"Josie stared out the classroom window anxious for the school day to end."

Josie stared out the classroom window anxious for the school day to end.

Not because she was eager to get home, but because of what she might find when she got there. These days, she couldn’t be sure.

She longed for the days when her Mom would greet her with cookies and milk after school and help her with her homework, but those days were long gone. Now she was likely to find her Mom crying in her room or worse, passed out.

Who says it’s better for the kids if fighting parents divorce? As far as Josie was concerned, she’d much rather have her Dad come back home, even if it did mean listening to her parents argue. At least she would still feel like a kid again.

Taking care of her mother had robbed her of her childhood.

She glanced at the clock above the teacher’s desk again, anxious to hear the bell ring so that she could get home and check on her Mother. God, please take care of my Mom, she prayed.
